Thomas Matthew Harmon, 65, passed away to be with the Lord on Saturday August 12, 2023 in Fishersville, Virginia after a long fought battle with kidney disease.
Born on June 1, 1958 he was the son of the late James Harmon, Jr. and the late Edna Harmon Fitch of Waynesboro, Virginia.
Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristina Harmon.
Surviving him is the mother of his children, Lisa E. Johnson of Lyndhurst; son Thomas A. Harmon (Sonya) of Stuarts Draft; daughter Candice Giampietro (Joseph) of Winchester; brothers Paul Harmon (Amy) of Lyndhurst, John Harmon (Lori) of Craigsville, and James P. Harmon of Palmdale, California; aunt Donna Sue Gibson (Evert) of Concord, North Carolina; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and eight grandchildren.
Tom grew up in Waynesboro and was a member of the Waynesboro High School Class of 1976.
Tom was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 44, reaching the rank of Life Scout and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.
Tom spent time researching family genealogy, being born into a Virginia pioneer family and had interests in electronics, computers and German cars.
Tom was beloved by his family and friends. He spent most of his time working and raising his children. In his remaining years he spent most of his free time visiting his children and grandchildren.
Tom was a graduate of the University of Lynchburg with a B.S. Degree in Computer Science and a AA&S Degree in Electronic Engineering from Blue Ridge Community College. He studied business and finance at West Virginia University.
Tom worked as an Electronic Engineer and earned a “Comp TIA A+ Certification.” He worked for many companies in his long career; General Electric, Sperry Marine, Genicom, Virtex, NIITEK, Ericsson, ComSonics Inc., Frontline Test Equipment, Aerosonic Corporation, UMA Instruments, Hollister Incorporated and World Test System. His employment sent him to China and Ireland to work. He retired in August of 2020 due to complications with his kidney disease.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday August 18, 2023 at White Hill Church of the Brethren in Stuart’s Draft, Virginia, officiated by Pastor Dave Chappell.
